Company Background
Samra, Owner and Artist Director of Desert Rose Dance & Imports, is a spirited perpetual student of the dance. She has studied with members of Ibrahim Farrah's Near East Dance Troupe, Jajouka and Samara, as well as with Randa Kamel (Egypt), Faten Salama (Egypt/DC), Nagwa Fouad (Egypt), Raqia Hassan (Egypt), Mo Gedawwi (Berlin), Farida Fahmy (Egypt), Dina (Egypt), Jillina (CA), Ansuya (FL), Bozenka (FL), Dalia Carella (NY),Jasmin Jahal (IL), Suhaila Salimpour (CA), Sonia (CA), Amira Mor (NY), Jehan Kamal (NY), Feyrouz (Vienna), Jasmine (TN), Zeina (TN) and Sadiia (TN). Her effort to ensure that everyone interested in the dance receives the best possible instruction, in the most professional setting, in a dance environment that fosters support and comraderie between dancers dictated that Desert Rose Dance & Imports become a reality. Samra was selected by Memphis Woman Magazine in 2001 as one of "50 Women Who Make A Difference". Samra has more than 15 years of management experience, 5 on an Executive level and hopes to put that experience to it's most enjoyable practice through the success of the studio.
In her "other" life, Samra is an Analyst for the United States Navy, CNIC, Mil Det Fleet and Family Readiness.

Feyrouz is an Instructor with Desert Rose Dance & Imports. She began dancing in 1993 and has been teaching since 1995. Feyrouz began her training with Samira Gamal (Nürnberg, Germany) but her most important and long-term teacher was Momo Kadous (Frankfurt, Germany, previously of the Reda Troupe, with whom she had regular classes for 3 years and numerous weekend workshops. She has participated in workshops with Shirinsha (Köln, Germany), Morokko (USA), Ishtar (Köln, Germany), Shahrazad (Köln, Germany), Beata & Horacio (Berlin, Germany), Amoura (Vienna, Austria), Aida (Germany), Susanna de Veccio (USA), Delila (USA), Feyrouz (Frankfurt, Germany), Dina (Cairo), Raqya Hassan (Kairo), Magdy El-Leisy (Essen, Germany), Zahra (München, Germany), Wendy Buonaventura (England), Samara (Stuttgart, Germany), Ibrahim Farah (USA), Laurel Gray (USA), Nelly Mazloum (Cairo), Sahra Saeeda (USA), Zaza Hassan (Paris), Khaled Seif (Switzerland), Rita Sherif (Frankfurt, Germany), Cassandra (USA), Seetha (Nürnberg, Germany), Enussah (Nürnberg, Germany), Mahmoud Reda (Cairo), Jillina (CA), Mo Geddawi (Berlin), Farida Fahmy (Cairo), and Leyla Jouvanna (Duisburg, Germany). Feyrouz also has a Diploma for a master course in Raks Sharki from Zaza Hassan (Paris). Feyrouz considers classical middle eastern style her specialty. Her aim is to convey the joy of this wonderful sensual dance to others. "I love teaching!" Feyrouz, a native of Vienna, Austria, recently relocated to Memphis. While in Vienna she performed in regular shows organized by the two studios with which she was associated (Studio AlAhram and Studio Amun), at international fairs, private parties and many other occasions. In her “real life” Feyrouz is a marine biologist. "I do research on anything in the sea that has intelligence especially marine mammals and cephalopods (octopus, squid and cuttlefish)."
